The cheapest and easiest way to do this was to buy two 10ft by 8in boards from Lowe’s and have them cut them in half. They are so helpful in the store, and it only cost about $14 per board.

WebYou want to position the shelf on the cleat against the bumpy wall, then use a spacer to draw a line along the shelf referencing the wall. Use a jigsaw to cut against the line for a tight fit. I don't know if cleat is the right word here. Basically any type solid interior that doesn't need to be flush, with a thinner prettier 'sheath' to go over.
